2 Years ago when researching some of the top best places to go in Asia one location that kept popping up was Luang Prabang in Laos. We hadn’t met anyone who had been, but decided to go, and were not disappointed.
The town itself is peaceful, quaint & full of character. It is actually a UNESCO World Heritage site, which means there are many restrictions on what can be developed, this helps preserve this beautiful town and protect it for the future.
The architecture and buildings are beautiful, you could just wonder for hours discovering them and what they contain. They are a fusion of traditional Laos architecture & European colonial buildings.
Luang Prabang is situated by the Mekong River, being by this river enables you to spend a lot of time relaxing at bars, cafes and restaurants that over look it, watching the sunset and absorbing the relaxed feel this town gives.

For several months a year Temporary Bamboo Bridges are built to create short cuts for commuters, if you are brave, you can pay the $0.10 and test the strength of these rickety constructions.

The highlight of this town, and one of the main reasons we wanted to go to Laos, is, Kuang Si Falls.
This is one of the best places we have visited in Asia and you can see from the images and video we made why.
It has several pools you can swim in, that have an illumines blue look to them. Depending on the time of year you go will dictate how much water there is, we went in March and it was beautiful, cool and refreshing to swim in.

You can either take a day trip with a tour company or book a private vehicle. It takes around 45mins to reach the waterfall from Luang Prabang and most tours also take in other attractions like the Butterfly Park, Black Bear Sanctuary & Buffalo Farm.

We stayed at the amazing Mekong Riverview Hotel, it has been designed to bring out the beauty of the original buildings and the service is incredible. We had a wonderful room overlooking the river and would often spend many hours relaxing on the balcony taking in the view whilst having a Beer Lao and a local baguette. They also have the most incredible breakfast in their near by cafe. Mekong Riverview have options for private vehicles to take you on day trips, we did this and found it easy and very professional.

All we can say is, if you can… VISIT Luang Prabang and especially Kuang Si Falls it will be worth the effort to get here.
